What is the textile design and its importance on the fashion world?

Textile design is the area especially dedicated to produce all products on the textile industry, such as threads, fabrics, fibers, etc., which are generally used to manufacture products used to decorate or dress.

“Textile design is an important part of the textile industry, we in Mexico have an excellent quality on textiles, which makes us really competitive in front of some other countries dedicated to clothes manufacturing”, says Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, a jeans manufacturer in Mexico.

Textile design is also in charge of development technical textiles, which are all those fabrics that require a special elaboration, used for different purposes, such as medicine, engineering, architecture, sports, which are areas that demand unique textiles that are adapted to the activities they make.

The textile industry is one of the main sectors to impulse economy in Mexico and the whole world, not only because this sector produces items that are consumed in huge quantities by the public and traders, but also due to the numerous job sources it creates, including those companies indirectly related to this industry, such as dry cleaners, spinning, weaving, couture, among many others.

Industrial Revolution marked a significant change on the textile industry, making it easier to manufacture more garments made of cotton and other type of fabrics in big amounts and faster than they could manually, along with this, other areas such as coloring, bleaching and printing were developed, as well as the yarn machines, and the textile design is a vital part for this industry to keep on evolving.

Properties of a cotton cloth

The cotton cloth is one of the oldest and more known fabrics in the whole world, dating back from the Ancient Egypt and the prehistoric Mexico. The mass production of the cotton cloth started on the 1700 and nowadays cotton is one of the most used fibers in the world, and one of the most popular clothes in the United States, known for its softness, versatility, lightness and shrinkage.

“We, at Grupo Denim, manufacture many garments made of 100% cotton clothes or compositions including cotton, mainly because this is a very resistant fiber, easy to work with and keeps the original color for a longer time”, advised Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of this company.

The cotton cloth can be dyed in any possible color, and they keep it well, this fiber can also be sewn in different ways, such as plain weave to produce simple fabrics, twill fabric to create thicker fabrics and satin fabric, which is not commonly used but it is considered as a “more elegant” type of fabric.

Most of the fabrics known wrinkle easily, cotton, on the other side can keep the original appearance without ironing too often.

Cotton also has a great capability to absorb liquids; it can easily sop up 27 times its weight in water, which makes the clothing made of this fiber to be more comfortable as it easily absorbs sweat.

The cotton weaves will shrink the first time you wash them, so many garments made with this fiber are pre-shrank so the buyer does not have to worry about the first wash cycle.

“Cotton is very useful, it is used to create denim, which is one of the most versatile fabrics, many buyers are usually seeking for garments made with this fiber as they know they are getting a garment they will wear comfortably”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal about this topic.

Denim pants have become a basic garment in all wardrobes every year, and is one of the most sold clothing in Mexico, as the market dedicated to sell these jeans represent a 30%, a number that cannot be compared with any other type of clothes.

The demand of denim pants has also increased internationally, as nowadays the manufacturing enterprises of these garments are working hardly to be able to meet their delivery compromises with their customers in Mexico and out of the country.

“Denim pants are the most wanted by customers of all ages due to their durability, low costs and new designs that are being handled and makes them more attractive to all public”, commented, Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal, president of Grupo Denim, a company dedicated to manufacture and distribution of denim pants.

These clothes give a total profit of 7,850 million dollars in sells every year in Mexico.

All Mexicans have an average of 5 denim pants on their wardrobe, price for jeans in Mexico go from 250 to 500 pesos and they are mainly bought in clothing stores, and in less quantities in self-service stores and supermarkets.

Mexican people looks for quality, resistance and durability in the jeans they buy, more than finishes or trimmings on a garment, and manufacturers consider this when they make their jeans to be sold nationally, in order to manufacture garments that meet their requests.

Comarca Lagunera is nowadays one of the most important sectors for jeans manufacturing in Mexico, as this part of the country produces up to 3 million garments per week.

“Denim pants are comfortable, fit perfectly well in each body, they last for too long and are easy to combine, for these reasons among many more, they are the favorite garments for lots of people”, added Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal.
